Why Sooqr is attending Web Summit 2019 - Part 1 Silvia Román, Head of Growth

‘It’s about inspiration and worldwide connections’

Next week, a delegate of our Troopers will be flying over to Portugal to attend tech event Web Summit, in Lisbon. The huge event, named ‘the best technology conference on the planet’, by Forbes, will be held November 4 -7. Leading up to it, our attending Troopers will be letting you know their thoughts on the event and why they are going. In today’s edition: Silvia Román, Head of Growth.

What do you want to take away from the event?
‘For me, it's a fun way to keep up with the future of the tech industry, both startups and the big companies. Also, as a growth hacker, it's very insightful to hear experiences from peers and how they achieve their goals in a creative way. And last but not least, it's about sustainability. Nowadays, it is easy to make a profit, but to do it in a sustainable, inclusive way, that it is the most important aspect of a business. For myself, it would be super important to learn how others are implementing this subject into their work and businesses.’

Most looking forward to?
‘I am especially looking forward to the Growth Summit, I mean, it's like a summit itself within the Web Summit, with over 20 talks/conferences per day. Also, I am an advocate for women in tech, so I’ll be going to several talks by some pretty inspiring women, like Anne-Christine Polet (SVP Digital at PVH Europe). She represents women in a traditional industry, who are working towards digital transformation. I find her journey motivational as it requires challenging the way things currently work in the industry, and to innovate a way of living. Another lady I’m hoping to see is Melanie Perkins (Co-founder and CEO of Canva). As she represents a woman in tech and also is an inspiration for every woman with entrepreneurial goals. Also, I love the way Canva provides easy designs, with great quality, for all marketers. I am super inspired by her journey as an entrepreneur. And obviously, I’m looking forward to Thursday: as we will then present ourselves as a company. It will be great to talk to people in the industry and hear what they have to say about Sooqr.’

What value do you bring?
‘Mostly, I think for me this is about inspiration and worldwide connections. I want to be inspired by what likeminded people are doing, on a startup level, as well as what the big players are doing. Also, I am looking forward to connecting with meaningful people, in whose experience I can find motivation.’

The annual Web Summit brings together people and companies that are redefining the global tech industry, and gathers the founders and CEOs of tech companies, fast-growing startups, policymakers and heads of state to ask a simple question: where to next? Within the Summit, Sooqr is part of the BETA programme: representing the most promising early-stage and returning startups. We’ll get the chance to exhibit, learn, listen, network, meet a numerous amount of interesting people and businesses and tell all about the importance & necessity of awesome onsite search! During the event, we’ll be giving away some free advice on your current onsite search engine, onsite search in general, e-commerce, and we’ll even answer any questions you have concerning the Dutch market! Obviously, we’d love people to try our awesome search straight away, but we do want people to know why, first. We’ll be giving people two ways of checking the necessity of using optimized onsite search. Through an audit, and an ROI calculator.
